Student Library Assistant Resource Guide

Book Repair

Acquisitions staff at the NIC Library mend and repair items that are in need. If you find an item that fits the criteria listed below, do not attempt to mend the book yourself! If the item has extreme damage (as seen in the images below), please give it to the staff member you are working with. Otherwise, add the call number and title to the 'Book Repair' spreadsheet saved on the circulation desktop.

Some things to consider:

  • Is this damage going to get worse with use? (i.e., torn or detaching pages or covers)
  • Is this damage going to get worse if it sits in the stacks and potentially damages other materials? (i.e., mould or water damage)
  • Does this damage impede staff from finding the book? (i.e., damage to spine label)
  • Does this damage impede students from using the book? (i.e., missing pages or writing throughout)
