How to Search Using Google Scholar - Tips & Tricks
Use "quotation marks" to search for a phrase, for example: "history of nursing" retrieves articles with all of those words together, in that order
Use "OR" to search for alternate search terms, for example: tornado cyclone retrieves articles with either search term in the text
Use the "-" sign to exclude a word from a search, for example: nursing -elderly retrieves articles about nursing that do not contain the word elderly
Use "author:" and the author's name to search for articles written by a particular person, for example: nursing author:benner retrieves articles about nursing written byBenner
Use "intitle:" and to search the document title rather than the full text of the article, for example: nursing intitle:family retrieves articles about nursing with the word family in the title
Use the "+" sign to include common words that Google generally ignores or to make sure that word is included in all of your results, for example: +the big apple retrieves articles that all have the word the in the results (usually Google Scholar would ignore it)
You can also use operators (symbols or connecting words) in the main Google Scholar search box to fine tune your searches
