Patron Privacy

Collection of Personal Information

Personal information provided to North Island College (NIC) is collected under the authority of the College and Institute Act and section 26 of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIPPA). Information collected will be used for the purpose of admission, registration, graduation, alumni development, research and other activities consistent with the mandate of the institution. NIC collects, uses, retains and discloses information within the College to carry out its mandate and operations in accordance to Policy 1-01 Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy. The library collects personal information in the creation of library accounts for use of students, staff and faculty. Library accounts and the information they contain fall understand the same standards and conditions as NIC policy 1-01.   

  • Maintain strict confidentiality
  • Do not give out information about one patron/student or their library account to another patron/student.
  • Do not leave student account information open on the circulation computers.
  • Do not answer questions about whether or not a patron/student is currently in the library or has been in the library that day.
  • Do not disclose who has a specific item checked out.
  • Do not disclose who has a study room booked in the library.
  • Do not make negative comments about items that a patron/student is checking out at the library.
