Copyright: NIC Library

Posting to Brightspace

Posting copyrighted material to Brightspace is permissible under NIC’s Fair Dealing Policy as long as it fits the criteria outlined in the policy. If the material you wish to post is from the Library’s Databases you must first check to see if our license agreement allows you to upload the material to Brightspace. Look up the database that the material belongs to in the A to Z Database list, and click on "Permitted Uses for this Database"

It is almost always preferable to link directly to material if possible rather than posting it to Brightspace, as the risk of violating the Fair Dealing policy or a license agreement is much lower. Unless you know the material you are linking to is an infringing copy, links are considered to be the safest way to provide access to material.

Copyrighted material must include an adequate attribution, and should include the following:

  • Title
  • Author
  • Source
  • License (terms of use)

Always make the greatest effort to include as much detail from the source as is available. If the creator is unknown, be sure to include that in your attribution.

If it is not possible to include an attribution statement with the work copied, use a bibliography or a list of sources that clearly identifies which citation accompanies which work.
