Following are some ideas for search terms you might use for Canadian History. You will want to create your own search terms for your particular topic.
Tips:

  • Consider using a combination of 2 or more search terms. Use 'AND' to combine terms. For example: "fur trade" AND "Canada" AND "history"
  • To broaden your results use OR between related keywords. For example: "fur trade" OR “Hudson’s Bay” AND "Canada" AND "history"
  • Using a * will broaden your search. For example, searching for national* will return results for national, nationalism and nationality.
  • To see what the library has available in full-text, select “Full Text Online” underneath the search bar or to the left of your search results, depending on which database you are searching in.

Search Tips

  • Consider using a combination of 2 or more search terms. 
  • Using a * will broaden your search. For example, searching for organization* will return results for organization, organizations, and organizational.
  • To see what the library has available in full-text, select undefined underneath the search bar or to the left of your search results, depending on which database you are searching in.
  • When you surround your search terms with "quotation marks", you are telling the database that the words must appear as an exact phrase
  • Consider using Boolean Search Terms AND, OR and NOT to combine search terms in order to broaden or limit search results. For example:
