Tips for Conducting an Effective Search

  • To view only full-text sources, on the left-hand side of the results page, under 'Limit To', select 'Full Text
  • Limit your search to scholarly sources by selecting Scholarly (Peer Reviewed) Journals under 'Limit To'
  • Control the currency of the results by using the date slider under 'Limit To'
  • Using an asterisk (*) at the end of a root word will broaden your search. Example: laugh* returns results for laugh, laughing, and laughter.
  • Search for phrases by surrounding words in "quotation marks" to keep words together
  • To broaden or narrow search results, use Boolean terms AND, OR and NOT to combine search terms. Example:
