What is Truth and Reconciliation in Canada?

In 2008, the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada (TRC) was established to shed light on the history and legacy of residential schools. Constituted by the Indian Residential Schools Settlement Agreement, the TRC documented the truths of residential school survivors, their families, communities, and anyone affected by the residential school experience. These records are now preserved at the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation (NCTR) at the University of Manitoba. While the TRC published its final report in 2015, reconciliation, commemoration, and public education will be an ongoing process for years to come.
