When was the NIC Book Club founded? |
The first conversation about having an NIC bookclub started in 2024 with a decision to launch in Winter 2025. |
How often and where does the club meet? |
The bookclub will meet at each campus for a read-in where everyone is invited to come to the library to read and then each campus will host a bookclub discussion in the month of February. The bookclub discussions will take place in-person and online. Find out more about the events here. |
Do I need to read the whole book? |
No! We're still happy to have you participate or just listen in during the discussion and sharing of ideas. |
What if I haven't read the book at all? |
You are still welcome to attend! |
Who can attend a meeting? |
Any student, staff, or faculty member at North Island College is welcome to attend. |
How are the books selected? |
The books are voted on by the NIC Reads committee based on the themes the committee would like to explore. |
Is this exclusively an academic discussion? |
No, the discussions about the book are open to every person that wants to participate. Every opinion of the book is valid, and we look forward to engaging conversations that are best when everyone feels welcome to contribute. |
Do you accept book suggestions? |
Definitely! If there's a book that you feel the committee should consider for NIC Reads, let us know by filling out this short form. Better yet, join the committee and work with other students and staff/faculty to help bring the bookclub to our NIC community. Email Jennifer Evans if you'd like to join the NIC Reads committee. |
