APA Style Guide: 6th Edition

Blackboard Learn, with Author

When creating references for items posted to Blackboard Learn, if there is a clear author and date stated on the PowerPoint/lecture notes/document, use them in your in-text citations and references. Additionally:

  • Do not assume that the current year is the date of publication.
  • Do not assume that your instructor is the author. If in doubt, ask your instructor for clarification.
  • If no author is stated, use North Island College in place of author.

Examples of formatting an in-text citation for this item are outlined below:

In-text Citation Guidelines

Examples

1.

Name of institution and year of publication placed in brackets at the end of a paraphrased sentence.

Consider this a paraphrased sentence (Ryan, 2019).

2.

Sentence beginning with name of institution followed immediately by date in brackets; page or paragraph # in brackets at the end of the quote.

According to Ryan (2019), "consider this a direct quote" (para. 2).

Remember, in-text citation formatting may change depending on a number of factors.

See Number and Type of Author(s), Publication Date, and Page/Paragraph Number or Heading for more information.
