Holds

When a hold item is received from another campus through intercampus mail: 

  1. Check the item in using: Workflows > Discharging

  1. An automatically generated email will be sent out to the patron to advise the item is ready for pick up, then put the item on the holds shelf.  When the item is picked-up, check out as per usual. 

The words “Place Hold” will show to the left of any title in the OPAC where a request or hold is allowed.  This does not include reserves, reference or e-books; it does include items at the patron’s home campus.  

  1. Click on: Place Hold words, beside the required item. 

  1. User ID and Password/PIN are mandatory fields. 

  1. Pick-up location: select one of the four campuses  

  1. Click on: Place Hold button   

Note: Distance students will have to phone or e-mail requests into the library.  

 

To place a hold on an item in Workflows: 

  1. Open the Holds Wizard:  Holds > Place Hold wizard. 

  1. Scan the user’s barcode or type the User ID and click Get User Information. You can also use the User Search helper to search for the user. 

  1. If you do not have an item ID, click the Item Search helper and search for the item. If more than one title appears in the list, highlight the relevant title and click Place Hold. 

  1. If necessary, change the pickup location with the Pickup At drop down.  

  1. Click Place Hold. 

  1. After the hold has been placed, select one of the following options: 

  • Place Hold for Another User to place a hold for another user. 

  • Place Another Hold for This User to place another hold for this user. 

  • Remove This Hold to remove the hold you just placed. 

  • Modify This Hold to make changes to this hold. 

  • Close to exit the wizard. 

Patrons may remove holds themselves, even if the item has already been made “available” on the holds list:  

  1. In the OPAC, patron opens My Account > Review My Account > Holds 

  1. Select appropriate item 

  1. Click on: Cancel Selected Holds 

To remove a hold, even if it has already been made “available” on the holds list: (this can be done from any campus) 

  1. Workflows > Circulation > Holds > Remove Item Hold 

  1. Item ID: scan or type in barcode 

  1. Click on: the box beside the appropriate item 

  1. Click on: Remove Hold  

  1. At this point the item will be returned to stacks; or put intransit (Put item in transit > OK > Close); or a slip will print for a subsequent hold.  

  1. This action can also be done from the Remove User Hold wizard.
