User accounts are blocked when the number of overdue items on loan exceeds the number indicated in Appendix B: Profile chart. Users with blocked accounts cannot borrow or renew items until the block is resolved.
If a student disputes a fine that has been charged to their record, charge and discharge information can be ascertained by bringing up the student’s record in:
In Workflows select Common Tasks> Display User.
Under the Bills tab,
Click on the underlined amount due. This will show the date the item was charged, the date it was due and the date it was returned.
Contact Library Tech Services if further inquiry is necessary.
Fines are not charged for Saturdays and Sundays.
Outstanding debts will be waived after 6+ years. The six year parameter will not be interpreted literally. Instead, three times a year, a report will generate a list of users who qualify for forgiveness and at that time, follow-up on Workflows and Colleague will be done centrally.
Library fines are assessed on material returned or renewed after the due date. Borrowing privileges are suspended when fines reach $5 (students), or $10 (staff). Students with bills of $10 or more have their accounts flagged in Colleague, which blocks them from registering for new courses, applying for graduation, or ordering transcripts until the bill is paid.
See Appendix C: Loan Periods And Fines for fine amounts and fine limits for various item types. Note that Faculty and Staff are not charged fines for overdue Videos/DVD’s. Library staff are not charged any overdue fines.
To pay fines see Paying Bills.
Before Library Tech Services send out weekly email overdue notices, each library receives a list of overdue books at their campus. This list should be checked against books in the stacks to make sure no books have been returned but not checked in. Let Library Tech Services know if you find any.
Students receive an autogenerated first overdue notice by email once a laptop has been overdue one day. The Library Technician III will also attempt to reach out to the student via email or phone to remind them that the laptop is overdue.
Students receive an autogenerated final overdue notice by email once a laptop has been overdue five days. At that time, students are invoiced to replace the laptop. Library Tech Services will send an invoice by post to the student’s address.
The replacement cost can be waived if the laptop is returned immediately, however the accrued overdue fines will remain.
