Take gate count. 4:00pm & closing time (CV)
Shelve all items on cart.
Check out/discharge materials as required.
Sort new student cards that arrive and put them into the file box in alphabetical order. Issue student cards.
PA only: Remove any Tebo, ASE or ESL students - these go directly to the instructors. Put these cards into an envelope with instructors’ name on it, and put into their staff box.
File books on Hold/ILL shelf. Make follow-up calls for items not picked up after 4 days; if not claimed within the week pull/return books.
Sort mail, do not open; magazine & calendars in one pile, everything else to on-duty staff person. (CV: mail not done by student helpers)
Package out-going parcels.
Deliver library mail to the mailroom.
Fill paper trays of all printers and photocopier.
Fill staplers.
Pick up books, DVDs left on desks, carrels/shelves. Use these with “Mark Item Used;” feature in Workflows. Reshelf items.
Pick up periodicals left behind; use generic Item ID to “Mark Item as Used,” reshelf current or back issue stacks accordingly.
Throughout shift, tidy and straighten chairs as well as tables and carrels.
Tidy and dust the library (counter tops, carrels, book shelves…). Periodically wipe everything down with a damp cloth.
Submit your own timesheet every other week. Please ensure your time sheets are completed before Thursday. (Schedule posted)
Empty recycle blue bins.
Straighten up packing boxes and padded envelopes below shipping counter.
Check posters that are up around the library, group study lounge, and outside library, remove if they are out-of-date.
Tidy and re-order newspapers each shift.
When there are overdue reports or missing reports, confirm that none of the titles are in the stacks.
Periodicals: Process new periodicals and shelve accordingly. Make sure issue are in the right order in the storage below the current copy.
Clean keyboards and monitors (using monitor cloth only, no water) every night.
Make sure white tables and whiteboards in study rooms and library are cleaned every shift.
Shelf read – 3-4 stacks each shift. Include Reserves, Reference, Audio Visual as well as discs (stored behind counter at Lending Services). “Face” books and wipe shelves as you go, also remove old receipts. Note span covered on clipboard, as well as Items requiring TLC (check these out to REPAIR).
MON: Tally the Weekly Stats Sheets day student
MON: Change book ends – day student
MON – WED: Update “Academic Supports” board for the next day – evening student
MON & THUR: Water plants in library – evening student
MON & WED: Sanitize headsets – evening student
If a library patron requires a Student Assistant to help them, this time away from the circulation desk should be limited to 5 minutes for less.
If there is a noise complaint, someone eating/drinking by the computers, or someone talking on their cell phone, Student Assistants are asked to refer to the Library Staff member on duty.
If a student/staff member has a research question, Student Assistants can direct them:
To the Library Staff member that they are working with
OR
To the Library & Learning Commons website where they can book an appointment under “Research Help”
Other support duties as required.
CV campus only:
Remind students about closing times – 15 and 5 minutes before closing
Start shutting down all the computers 10 minutes before closing time
Reverse door bars, both sides
Shut off laminator
All campuses:
Tidy the library – push in chairs and remove excess paper from carrels.
Check return bins for library materials, check-in
Gather unclaimed print jobs and recycle.
Lock cash drawer
Record gate count (at 4:00 pm and closing time)
Turn off lights
