Faculty and staff should complete a ‘Material Request Form’ when suggesting items for purchase for the library. This form is available online. See: Library > Services > Faculty > Adding Items to Collection/Reserves > Suggested Items for the General Collection > Library Request Forms. Information should include book title, author, ISBN, publisher and where possible, the price. Alternate ISBNs could be listed where either a soft cover or hardcover book would be acceptable. Completed forms are sent to the Public Services Librarian in CV.
Any ‘Material Request Forms’ received in the library should have the information verified before sending the form on for signature. Also check the NIC library catalogue to see if these items are already in the collection. If they are held at another campus library, the instructor should be asked whether it is necessary to have another copy at the local library.
Keep a copy of each order on file at the local campus. The status of each order can be checked, by searching by title in the online catalogue.
Orders for individual faculty members can be checked in Workflows under Common Tasks > Display User > Order Reqs tab.
Library owned books and instructor copies may be placed on Library Reserve for students. Reserve loan periods are determined by the instructor.
For copies of student essays, a signed Permission to Copy Unpublished and/or Student Work form is required. Faculty must contact the library to request this form.
Faculty who wish to place an item on Reserve will submit the item together with a completed Reserve Form to the Lending Services desk. Advise the faculty to allow for 2 weeks for processing. This form is available online. See: Library > Services > Faculty > Adding Items to Collection/Reserves > Adding Items to Reserve Collection
